Writer, singer Pratiti Devi passes away

Writer and singer Pratiti Devi has passed away due to acute pneumonia and old age complications at the age of 94.

She breathed her last undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital at 8:40pm on Sunday.

Pratiti Devi was born on November 4, 1925, to Suresh Chandra Ghatak and Indubala Devi In Rajshahi. Her twin brother Ritwik Ghatak, was a renowned Bangali filmmaker and scriptwriter.

As a singer and writer, her work has appeared in numerous publications.

Pratiti Devi was married to Sajib Dutta, son of former health minister Dhirendranath Dutta.  Together they had two children, Aroma Dutta and Rahul Dutta. MP Aroma Dutta is a social and human rights activist and holds a seat reserved for women in the parliament.

Pratiti Devi is survived by her two children, granddaughter, several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, good friends, and well wishers.
