Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has withdrawn two of its drivers from driving the Gazipur-bound bus of Dhaka University (DU) on allegations of misbehavior with students.
The drivers -- Salam and Hasan -- plied the BRTC bus "Khonika" and were withdrawn on Wednesday as per the recommendations of DU Paribahan (transport) Pool.
BRTC's Kallyanpur bus depot Manager Abdul Latif confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Friday.
"We withdrew them immediately from driving the DU buses as allegations of misconduct were raised against them from the university authorities via students," Latif added.
The students on DU-Gazipur route filed a complaint against the drivers with the university authorities on Wednesday, and the authorities forwarded it to the BRTC.
On Friday, Kamrul Hasan, transport manager of the university, told Dhaka Tribune:"We forwarded the complaint to the BRTC as we have no jurisdiction to sack them."
"Khonika" bus managing committee's General Secretary Rifat Hasan said they received several complaints of misconduct with female students against the duo earlier.
DU runs almost 21 buses hired from BRTC for transporting its students who stay outside the campus to their destinations.
Allegations mostly from female students emerged in social media against few bus drivers who used to misbehave with the students when they wanted to get off the buses in their expected places.
On Sunday evening, a DU female student was attacked and raped by the side of Airport Road in Kurmitola area after she got off a "Khonika" bus.
However, the particular bus was being driven by another driver.
The rape incident spread shockwave and triggered demonstration of students and humanitarian organizations across the country.
