The Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce the schedule for the polls to the Dhaka North and South city corporations on December 22.
"The agenda for the commission's meeting for Sunday [December 22] includes the schedule for the polls to the two Dhaka cities and it will be announced the same day," Election Commission Secretary Md Alamgir said on Thursday.
Responding to a query on the day for voting, he said that it would be decided at the meeting.
On November 3, the commission secretary indicated that both the city corporation elections would be held on the same day in January next year.
He then said: "The two elections will be held using Electronic Voting Machines [EVMs] and with the existing voters' list. Voters who will be included during the draft voters' list due in January, will not be eligible to vote."
Earlier, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections were held on April 28, 2015.
The first meeting of the elected DNCC and DSCC officials took place on May 14 and 17, respectively,
As per the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009, election will be held within 180 days before the expiry of the term which starts from the day of the first meeting.
