Ruling Awami League backed Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik League (BRTWL) has demanded to have the new Road Transport Act 2018 implemented after one year.
From a press conference at the National Press Club on Thursday leaders of the transport workers federation pressed a 12-point demand including a one-year extension in implementing the new law, amendment of several sections and to take action against callers of blockades.
The leaders also thanked the vehicles owners and transport workers for withdrawing the countrywide blockade after meeting with the home minister.
Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' League General Secretary Yunus Ali said that BNP-Jamaat backed transport leaders are leading the transport sector and such vested quarters are trying to create unrest in the country by imposing blockades.
Yunus thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for passing the new law and also demanded the amendment of a few sections of the new law including sections 66, 86, 87, 89, 104 and 105.
They also demanded to minimize the punishment and fines in the law.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik League declared forming a human chain on November 24 against vested quarters of transport sector.
BRTWL Vice President Anowar Hossain Anu, Joint Secretary Mohammad Hanif and Organizing Secretary Enamul Kabir Miraj were present, among others, at the press briefing while vice president Mohammad Mujibur Rahman Khan was in chair.
