DU to launch Japanology department

Dhaka University will launch a named Department of Japanology in recognition of the ongoing collaborative academic activities with Japanese universities. DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique made the announcement on Thursday while speaking at the 30th Mukarram Hussain Khundker Memorial Lecture, reports BSS. DU Chemistry Department organised the programme at the MHK Science Building. Japan's Toyohashi University of Technology Professor Dr Shinichi Itsunu delivered this year's Memorial Lecture on “Synthesis of chiral polymers and their applications to asymmetric catalysis.” Paying tribute to the memory of late Professor Mukarram Hussain Khundker, Professor Arefin said he was a genius in the field of chemistry and chemistry education in Bangladesh. The vice-chancellor thanked the Japanese professor for delivering the memorial lecture and said DU has many collaborative academic and research projects with various Japanese universities.
