The country’s first ever Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2019 began on Monday in the capital aiming to create commercial scopes for local innovations in the digital industry.
The three-day expo, inaugurated at Bangbandhu International Conference Center in the capital, was jointly organized by Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Information Communication Technology (ICT) Division, Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS), and Idea Project.
The expo was categorized in eight different zones focusing on innovation, start-up and robotics.
In Made in Bangladesh Zone, the local digital device manufacturers are showcasing their products to local and international buyers.
The changing scenario of Bangladesh through innovation in the field of agriculture, Bangla language tools, disability related devices, education, health are being displayed in Innovation Zone managed by government’s a2i project.
Start Up and the Robotics zones are focusing on how the youth of the country are planning to commercialize their innovation.
The expo has also a much interest drawing zone, Mars Registration Zone, as the government is planning to launch its Mars project by 2041.
World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Secretary General James (Jim) Poisant speaking as a guest of honor, said: “In WISTA, out mission is to enable every people in the earth with ICY related technology and services. It looks like the vision of Bangladesh is very similar to that of WITSA. A large number of investors are here and I am sure they must be very excited to see this wonderful expo.”
ICT Division State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the focus of the event was to create scope for local device manufacturer to showcase their product to the world.
‘Now we have companies like Walton and Symphony who made quality products in the country. And the good thing is Samsung announced it will not import any handsets from 2020,” he said.
“Bangladeshi people will use Samsung phones made in Bangladesh. So this kind of expo and policy support from the government will help the digital device industry,” he added.
AKM Rahmatullah, chairman parliamentary standing committee on telecom and ICT division, and foreign minister AK Abdul Momen also spoke on the occasion, among others.
