Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six people for their reported involvement in the trading of stolen goods.
The law enforcement agency also recovered 504 stolen mobile phones of various brands from their possession in a drive on Thursday night.
Acting on a tipoff, DMP Senior Assistant Commissioner SM Shamim conducted a raid in Pallabi of Dhaka and detained the six, DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said.
The arrested are, Md Swapan Fakir, Hridoy, Md Kalimullah, Md Billal, Rakib Ali, and Makbul Khan.
They could not show any valid documents for the seized mobile phones, Masudur said.
In primary interrogation, police came to know that the six arrested were instrumental in mugging people and stealing handsets, and were connected with others who sell stolen mobile phones, he said.
According to the DMP, they hired people to steal handsets and sell those at a cheaper price to buyers, said the DMP official.
A case was filed with Pallabi police station in this connection.
