The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has conducted drives against illegal structures on footpaths and roads in Karwan Bazar and Khilkhet areas.
Some 350 makeshift shops and structures were evicted from Karwan Bazar area and some 600 makeshift structures from Khilkhet area on Thursday.

Executive magistrates Md Aminul Islam and Sazid Anwar led the mobile courts in Karwarn Bazar area, while executive magistrates Abdul Hamid Miah and Julkar Nain in Khilkhet area.
During the drive at Karwan Bazar, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said people suffer a lot due to illegal occupation of roads and footpaths in the city. “We’ll allow no illegal structure on footpaths and roads.”

No one will be allowed to do business occupying footpaths and roads causing sufferings to the public, said the DNCC mayor.
Atiqul said a police outpost will be set up at Karwar Bazar to ensure security in the area.
A monitoring committee headed by the local ward councillor and the officer in-charge concerned was formed to protect the reclaimed footpaths and roads from reoccupation, he said.
