Ayesha Siddika Minni, accused in a case filed over her husband Rifat Sharif’s murder, was put on gunpoint by police, claimed her father yesterday.
"My daughter is living through the sheer horror that she had faced in remand under police custody," Mozammel Hossain said.
Minni has severe pain in the knees, and different joints of her bones, said Mozammel, adding that Minni was brought to Dhaka to consult with a doctor.
The father disclosed this to reporters while visiting Minni's lawyer Advocate ZI Khan Panna at his Supreme Court Bar Association Chamber in Dhaka.
“Police had tortured her while she was in custody. They also scared her off. Since then, she is living in depression. So, we came to Dhaka for her treatment,” the father said.
He also said that they have been feeling insecurity as an influential quarter is continuously following them and trying to scare them off.
Asked about the meeting, Advocate Panna said Minni came to meet him for legal advice.
Rifat, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife Minni, in broad daylight, in the Barguna town on June 26.
Rifat’s father, Dulal Sharif, filed a murder case against 12 named and five or six unknown attackers with Barguna police station.
Minni appeared to be trying to protect him during the attack.
Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond, the case’s main accused, was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on July 2.
Police arrested Minni on July 16 in the murder case. She was denied bail several times.
She reportedly confessed to her involvement in the murder before the court on July 19, two days after her arrest. On July 31, she filed a petition with a Barguna court seeking withdrawal of her confessional statement.
On Aug 29, the High Court granted her bail on condition that she stays in her father’s custody and refraining from talking to media.
Later, police pressed charges before a Barguna court against 24 people, including Minni, in the murder case on September 1.
On September 2, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order which granted bail to Minni in the murder case.
Minni was released from jail on September 3, 48 days after her arrest.
