A schoolboy has been stabbed to death, while three other were injured in Chan Miah Housing area at Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Wednesday, according to police.
The deceased was identified as Mohsin Ali, 16, a 10th grader at Child Haven International School.
Two of the injured — Sabbir, 17, and Rakib, 17 — were admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital; while the third, Rubel, 17, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Mohammadpur police station's SI Mizanur Rahman said the murder may have occurred due to an internal conflict among local youths. “But it is too early to deduce the motive.”
Police were yet to make any arrest over the murder.
Mohsin’s friend Md Yousuf said they were chatting at Chan Miah Housing area in the evening when a group of 10-12 youths, some of whom they knew, attacked Mohsin and started stabbing him with sharp weapons.
Sabbir, Rakib and Rubel were injured while trying to protect Mohsin, he added.
On duty doctors declared Mohsin dead on arrival after all four were rushed to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Mohsin’s body was kept at the hospital for autopsy, Yousuf said.
