Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said the overall dengue situation in the country is somewhat under control now.
"There will not be any shortage of medicine as insecticides are being brought from abroad to control the dengue menace," he said.
Moreover, 200,000 kits have been bought for dengue testing in private and public hospitals, the minister told reporters while visiting dengue patients at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday afternoon.
When asked about the alleged lack of dengue diagnosis kits in private hospitals, Maleque said a body has been formed to investigate and supervise the matter.
He said a total of 14 people have died of dengue, so far.
When reporters pointed out that 12 people have died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) alone – with two other deaths at BSMMU and many others across the country – Maleque said: "I will let you know the actual figure after I get proper information on the matter."
The health minister is scheduled to visit the DMCH, Dhaka Shishu Hospital and other hospitals after his visit to BSMMU.
The number of dengue patients has reached a record high of 21,253 since the beginning of this year. Among all the other cities, Dhaka has suffered the most, with 992 new patients being admitted from Thursday to Friday.
Until Friday, 6,582 people were hospitalized, which was 4,903 on Thursday afternoon.
According to the unofficial tally, at least 47 people have died due to the mosquito-borne virus.
