Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has sought cooperation from all deputy commissioners (DCs) to curb drug abuse, terrorism and militancy in the country.
“As per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s directives, DCs have been instructed to curb drug abuse, terrorism and militancy,” he told journalists after a meeting with the DCs at the Cabinet Division as part of the ongoing DC conference on Thursday.
The minister also told the deputy commissioners to perform duties strictly following the government’s zero tolerance policy against drug and terrorism.
He also said the prime minister’s election mandate is to control drug, terrorism and militancy.
“As a result, the DCs have been directed to conduct drives against drug abuse, terrorists and militants along with taking steps for awareness campaigns in this regard,” he added.
Replying to a query about DCs’ demand to set up a separate force for eradicating illegal drugs, the home minister said: “Police always support the administration to erradicate drug abuse, terrorism and militancy, so there is no need to form a force separately.”
