A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kafrul police station has been suspended allegedly for taking money from a rape victim's father as well as conducting unprofessional behaviour.
The second-grade student’s father went to Kafrul Police Station to file a case against the culprit who attempted to rape his child. But, SI Abdul Kuddus Bepary took Tk4,000 from that victim’s father, and also demanded more.
Not only that, an allegation has been brought against the SI that he behaved unprofessionally with the victim's father over the phone.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka tribune, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Mirpur Division) Masud Ahmed said: “The committee, which was formed to investigate the allegation, submitted its report on Thursday."
Based on the report, SI Abdul Kuddus Bepary has been suspended as allegations brought against him were found to be true.
“His mistake is a punishable crime. The investigation committee recommends departmental action against him,” he said, adding that the process of taking departmental action is going on.
Following the development, the SI was withdrawn from the police station and “closed for entry” to Mirpur deputy commissioner’s office, he said.
Police and local sources said a young man, Sumon Khan, tried to violate the second-grader when she returned from her father's shop in Kafrul area on May 21. After hearing her screaming, locals rescued the girl.
When the victim's father went to the police station to file a case, the SI demanded money from him, saying: "The money will be required as the case cannot be executed without the sum.”
The victim's father provided the SI with Tk4,000, and managed to file the case against Sumon under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
