Two brothers turn into pauper in hours

Saturday's fire, at the DNCC market in Gulshan 1, has thrown two brothers into poverty within just a few hours.

The brothers, Jahirul Islam and Abdus Salam, owned nine shops in the market, and all of them were burnt to ashes.

Both, rushed to the area, immediately upon being informed about the fire, by an acquaintance. Jahirul could not contain his tears when he saw the devastation caused by the fire.

"It happened to me again. I recently took out a loan of Tk5 lakh, and stocked new products at the shop. Everything I worked for turned into ashes today," he said.

"Our lives have no value! All five of my shops, in the kitchen market, were completely burned down, another shop that I own with my brother, in the supermarket, was also gutted by the fire. What will I do now?"

Elder brother, Abdus Salam, said they are yet to measure the full extent of their losses. Their shops in the DNCC market, stored disposable plastic products, crockery items, carpets, ceramics, and more.

This is the second time they have become victims of a fire erupting in the DNCC market, with the previous instance in January 2017.
