There will be no scarcity of water during summer as well as Ramadan, the month of fasting in the Islamic calendar, officials of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) said on Thursday.
“We are prepared to tackle the scarcity problem,” Dhaka Wasa Managing Director Taqsem A Khan told reporters.
Dhaka residents face water shortage in Ramadan as well as the dry season of summer, since the demand for water is higher during those times.
“The average daily demand for water is about 2.45-2.52 billion litres in the city. Wasa produces about 2.55 billion litres,” Taqsem said. “Once in operation, the Tetuljhora-Bhakurta project will produce 150 million litres."
He claimed that 70% of the slums in Dhakanow have access to pure water.
The rest will get will be brought under Wasa’s coverage and will get fresh water by December this year, he added.
