Around five people—including three police officials—have been injured in a clash between police and hijackers in Tongi.
The incident occurred near Tongi's Tilargati area, while the hijackers were trying to flee from Ashulia, around 3:45am on Monday.
The injured police officials are Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Hasan, Constable Razzak, and Constable Rafik. They are being provided with first-aid treatment.
Law enforcement also detained four hijackers, two of whom were injured.
The injured hijackers are Momij Uddin, 23, of Jamalpur; and Mosharef Hossain, 35, of Gazipur City. They have been taken to Dhaka's National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), after being provided with first-aid treatment at Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, under police guard.
The other two detainees are Akhles, 20, of Jamalpur; and Imran, 22, of Gazipur City.
Tongi West police station Officer-in-Charge Emdadul Haque confirmed the matter, saying: "A police patrol team stopped a group of hijackers who were fleeing the area after carrying out a hijack in Ashulia's Beribadh area.
"The hijackers tried to escape after stabbing SI Hasan's hand, prompting the other police officials to shoot at them in self defence."
He said the police team detained four hijackers. After searching them, police found: four mobile phones, a laptop, two knives, and money worth Tk2,247.
He furthered: "We are preparing to file a case regarding the matter."
