BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra and Abdul Awal Mintoo have been allegedly barred from going to India by immigration authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.
Talking to UNB, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar said he was scheduled to go to India with another BNP leader and businessman Abdul Awal Mintoo by Jet Airways flight at 5pm, but the immigration authorities did not allow them to fly.
When contacted, Mintoo, a BNP vice chairman, said they were not given clearance by the immigration officials at the airport for catching the flight at 5pm.
He said he was scheduled to go to Hyderabad for a business purpose while Gayeshwar was scheduled to Kolkata on a personal tour.
Mintoo said he later booked another flight of Air India which was scheduled to leave the airport at 9:30pm, but he was obstructed further, forcing him to return home.
The BNP leader said he was also scheduled to go to Sri Lanka from India to join a seminar there.
The immigration officials could not be reached over phone for comments.
