A Romanian citizen who had been working at Akij Food and Beverage Factory Limited in Dhamrai of Dhaka was found dead on Saturday.
Police identified him as Niculae Manea, 60.
Manea, appointed by German company FAS, had been working at the factory for the last 13 years, said Dipak Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Dhamrai police station.
His body was recovered from the factory's guesthouse where he used to reside, Dipak said.
Police and factory workers said on Friday, after taking dinner, Niculae Manea went to his room on the first floor of the guesthouse but did not show up for work the next day.
Niculae Kosmi, his colleague and fellow Romanian, tried to reach him over the phone but the calls went unanswered. Kosmi went to Manea's room and found his body lying on the bed.
Police said a half-empty Vodka bottle was found in the room. The body was sent to a local hospital for autopsy. Now it is at the morgue of Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.
Police and factory authorities did not let journalists in to report the incident. A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team visited the spot and collected evidence. It is investigating the incident.
"The cause of his death will be clear once the post mortem report is available," said Abdur Rahim, CID Inspector (Forensic), who visited the spot.
