A one-year-old child, who was undergoing treatment at Dhaka's Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (ShSMCH), has died while he—along with thousands of other patients—was evacuated due to a massive fire at the hospital, on Thursday.
The deceased is yet to be identified.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, CARe Hospital's emergency department on-duty doctor Dinaur Rahman said: "A one-year-old child was brought in from ShSMCH a little after 6pm.
"The child was declared dead upon arrival."
He said: "We did not perform an autopsy. The deceased body was handed over to the family and they left immediately."

Meanwhile, bdnews24.com quoted CARe Hospital General Manager Md Abdullah Khan saying that the child had been given oxygen, but the oxygen mask was removed during the transfer.
He said: "We did not have the time to ask for identities of patients brought to our hospital as each of us had to tackle the intense rush after the fire incident."
CARe authorities decided to treat the Suhrawardy patients—who were forced to evacuate the government hospital due to the fire—for free, he added.
According to bdnews24.com's report, a total of 30 patients were brought to the CARe Hospital from ShSMCH and 27 of them were admitted; seven of them to the Intensive Care Unit.
