A person has been detained for allegedly spreading anti-state rumours on social media.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Mohammad Ali—alias Rubel, 28—in Bangla Bazar of Old Dhaka, on Wednesday evening.
Confirming the matter, RAB 10 Deputy Commanding Officer Major Ashraful Haque said their cyber-monitoring cell is patrolling areas to gather information that prevents cyber crime.

He said: “Acting on a tip-off, we arrested Belal and found that he posted some fake information about state and parliamentary members on his social media group, which could destroy the reputation and image of the country.”
Two mobile phones and three SIM cards were also recovered from his possession, he added.
The RAB official also said a case has been filed against Belal at Sutrapur police station.
