A fire has gutted the bamboo market in the Merul Badda area of Dhaka. The blaze caused panic among residents and caused significant damage in the market.
The fire broke out around 12:30pm on Friday, and was extinguished around 3:35am, fire service duty officer Ershad Hossain confirmed to the Dhaka tribune.
"The fire originated from a stove in a shop inthe market, and quickly spread to nearby shops. Ten fire service units arrived at the spot after receiving a tip-off about the blaze. We doused the flames without any further incident, and no one was injured,” he said.
Ershad added that the fire service was able to save goods and equipment worth around Tk50 lakh, and the estimated damage caused by the blaze was around Tk10 lakh.
