An eight year old child has been killed, and six people have sustained burn injuries, in a gas cylinder explosion in Dhalpur, Jatrabari.
The accident occurred on Friday morning in the Dhalpur area.
The deceased was identified as Tahsin, 8. The injured are: Shalmi Begum, 40; Aturi Begum, 50; Kajoly Begum, 25; Alamgir, 35; Shumon, 38; and Nishan, 16.
Confirming the matter, Fire Service Headquarters Duty Officer Md Rasel Shikkder told the Dhaka Tribune: “Primarily, we know that the gas cylinder leaked—and for this reason the gas filled the house.
“The fire was already extinguished when we reached the spot.”
“The cylinder exploded when a stove burner was lit; the room’s wall collapsed beside the house,” he added.
“A gas cylinder exploded in a house, with a big bang—leaving the child dead on the spot and six others injured, around 7am,” said SI Bacchu Mia, the in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp.
The injured were taken to the burn unit of DMCH around 8:30am.
