Police recovered the hanging body of a student of Dhaka University from her residence at the East Tejturi Bazar area in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased Orpa Anika Moitri, a third year student of the Marketing department, was the daughter of Mossaraf Hossain, a resident of the Maijdee area in the Noakhali district, police said.
Quoting family members, Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mazharul Islam told Dhaka Tribune: “The student might have hung herself from the ceiling of her room with her scarf on Tuesday, sometime between 12pm and 1pm.
“When family members could not get any response from Orpa after repeatedly knocking at her door, they broke into the room and found her hanging.”
Police rushed to the spot upon receiving the information, where law enforcers found the girl lying on the bed, as locals and family members had brought the body down before their arrival, the OC said.
“The dead body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. It seemed like a suicide but everything will be clear after the autopsy,” added the OC.
An unnatural death case was lodged with Tejgaon Police Station, which could turn into a murder case if any abnormalities were found in the postmortem, said the police official.
