DU terminates 3 teachers for irregularities

The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have terminated three teachers on charges of irregularities.

Dhaka University Teachers Association President Prof Maksud Kamal said that the decision was taken at a Syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman on Wednesday.

He said that Biplab Kumar Datta, lecturer of development studies department, and Obhishek Zaman, lecturer of gene engineering and biotechnology department, were fired for not joining their departments following a leave of absence.

Muhammad Azher Zafer Shah, assistant professor of international relations department, was also sacked for his absence from academic activities, he said. 

Maksud, who is also a member of the Syndicate, added that the three teachers were asked to return the financial benefits they had received from the university.
