A professor of Dhaka University’s Psychology Department has temporarily been barred from discharging his academic duties for allegedly disclosing a secret official conversation.
The Academic Committee (AC) of the department declared the decision on September 27.
Prof Dr AKM Rezaul Karim is accused of secretly recording an official conversation with department Chairperson Professor Dr Nasreen Wadud, at her office, in 2017.
The committee filed a written complaint to the vice-chancellor (VC) of the university and requested the authorities to take necessary steps against Prof Rezaul.
The complaint letter reads said: “All the members of Academic Committee admit that Rezaul’s unethical work has created an unsafe workplace.
“Recording and disclosing the official secret conversation without any permission appears to be a sign of unethical professionalism and also a violation of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act’s section 57.”
Dr Rezaul acknowledged having taped the conversation, the letters reads.
