BLAST condemns physical attack by police on school going students

Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust(BLAST) has condemned the recent attacks on students by the police and applied to the National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh, to make a coalition to address the physical and mental abuse against children.

The actionsof law enforcement agencies towards school and college students during their peaceful protest for safer roads is a clear violation of the law and very inhuman, said a press release.

BLAST appealed to the National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh, and asked them to take action against members of law enforcement agencies involved in these treacherous acts and said they should immediately be brought to justice.

It is to be noted that if any child is physically or mentally abused or such a situation occurs which leads a child to commit suicide, it is a clear violation of sections27, 31, 32, 35 (5), of the Constitution of Bangladesh.

According to Section 70 of the Child Rights Act of 2013, physical and mental torture of children is a punishable act.
