Two construction workers killed at Dhaka University

Two labourers have fallen to their deaths from an under-construction building at Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall.

The incident occurred around 4pm Saturday.

The deceased are Swapan, 24, from Pabna, and Maidul, 26, from Rangpur.

Their co-worker Shanto Das said two extra floors are being built on top of the existing eight-storey Santosh Bhattacharya building. The two workers were laying cement on the outer wall of the 9th floor when the makeshift rope-and-bamboo ladder they were standing on tilted, causing the duo to lose balance and plunge to the ground.

Grievously injured, the two workers were immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor pronounced them dead.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Bachchu Miah confirmed the incident.
