A young man has died in a road accident in Mirpur area of Dhaka.
The deceased, Masud Rana, was a student of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT).
The accident occurred on the National Zoo road around 10:30am on Monday, when Rana was on his way to the university.
DMP’s Senior Assistant Commissioner Sayed Mamun Mostofa, confirming the matter, said Rana was in a rickshaw when a Dishari Paribahan bus rammed it, throwing him and the rickshaw-puller off into the road.
Locals rushed him to a hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, he added.
BUBT Joint Registrar Azmal Hossain said: “When the bus hit the rickshaw, Rana had fallen on the road. Without stopping, the bus ran him over and sped away. Rana was taken to Agargaon’s National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitaion where he was declared dead.

"The rickshaw-puller was also injured, and is being treated at another hospital."
The university authorities have suspended classes to mourn Rana's death, extending their condolences to his family and loved ones.
DMP official Mostofa also said the bus was impounded, but did not confirm any arrests.
After the incident, students of BUBT and locals blocked the roads at the Sony Cinema Hall intersection in Mirpur 1 for several hours, protesting the vehicular manslaughter and demanding arrest of the bus's driver and his assistant.
Dhaka has seen a rise in such deaths in recent times.
A former Jahangirnagar University student was killed on Sunday when a bus rammed into his motorcycle near Dhaka Cantonment.
