DNCC panel mayor: Wasa will be held responsible for water-logging

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Panel Mayor Osman Gani has warned that the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) will be held responsible for any suffering to the city dwellers caused by water-logging in the upcoming monsoon. He further said: “We had repeatedly requested Wasa to clean out water bodies in Dhaka for ensuring smooth flow of water, but they are yet to take any action in this regard.” Mayor Gani made the comments at the inauguration program of Dakhai- a magazine published by Nagar Unnayan Sangbadik Forum Bangladesh at a city hotel on Thursday. Present at the program, DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Md Zakir Hasan said: “We recently met with the officials of agencies concerned, including Wasa, seeking help to clean up canals throughout the city, but received no response. “Dirty canals have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Wasa should act responsibly for reducing water-logging in Dhaka.” Chief Executive Officer of DNCC Mesbahul Islam and President of Nagar Unnayan Sangbadik Forum Bangladesh Amitush Paul addressed the event among the others.
