Bhorer Kagoj confers awards on 8 outstanding women

Bhorer Kagoj, a Bengali-language daily, has conferred awards on eight women in recognition of their outstanding role in different sectors of the country.
The awards were given at a seminar titled “Agrajattrai Adommo Nari” (Pioneer invincible women) at the VIP lounge of National Press Club in the city on Friday.
The award winners include Forkan Begum (Independence), Cemon Ara (language movement), Luna Shamsuddoha (economics), Rubi Rahman (literature), Mita Haque (music), Dr Sayeba Akter (medicine), Jobera Rahman Linu (sports) and Superintendent of Police (SP) Shaheda Sultana (courageous role).
Shaheda Sultana said girls should not be frightened, they must keep strength and confidence in themselves.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki,who was present at the ceremony as chief guest, said: “Those who commit violence against women will be brought to justice. People should treat women as human beings and show respect to them.”
Aroma Dutta, executive director of Private Rural Initiatives Program (PRIP) Trust, said to make women politically empowered, the government should ensure women's participation in the upcoming elections not only in casting vote but also contesting in the election.
Selima Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the government should ensure the involvement of women in the sustainable development goals (SDG) and create more opportunity for them.
