DMP urging DNCC, DSCC to introduce on-street parking

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has sent letters to the two city corporations to start parking arrangements in several identified locations on a temporary basis. The parking arrangements will generate revenue as an e-token system will revenue will be generated by introducing parking arrangements in these places through e-token system. The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has decided to establish parking in 550 locations and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has the matter under consideration. Concerned authorities say there is no parking system in the city's shopping malls, schools, colleges or hospitals, and people are forced to park in the street. As a result, they are fined and suffer from increased traffic congestion. At the 12th board meeting of Dhaka South City Corporation on January 24, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said: "In Dhaka, due to many reasons, including the use of ride-sharing services like Uber, the number of cars has increased at an alarming rate. For this we have identified open places for parking. For them, parking arrangements can be made by online tokens. Such systems are also prevalent in developed countries of the world. It will be helpful in controlling traffic congestion as well as increase revenue." The number of cars to be parked in the designated areas will be determined by the DMP.
