Famed musician Shafin Ahmed has collected the nomination paper to run for the mayor in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election, slated for February 26.
A high council member of Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), Shafin was accompanied by the party's election coordinator Mominul Amin when he collected the document from the returning officer's office in Agargaon, Dhaka on Thursday afternoon, said a press release.
In the release, Shafiin said:"NDM wants to see a neutral selection under a strong Election Commission. Public representative Bobby Hajjaj is determined to return the ownership of the state to the people. I am grateful to him for nominating me for the post of the mayor. Hopefully Dhaka will support me."

NDM chief Bobby on December 26 last year had announced Shafin's nomination from his party.
Thursday's press release also said: "Shafin Ahmed's victory means the victory of Dhaka. For fair elections, we presented a four-point demand, including seizure of illegal weapons and army patrol, to the Election Commission. We hope this victory will be democracy's victory."
DNCC mayor’s post fell vacant on December 1 after the death of Annisul Huq on November 30. Since then, various political parties have been looking for suitable candidates to represent them in the by-polls.
The Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party are yet to announce their candidates.
