He made the comment while talking to the Dhaka Tribune yesterday evening.
He said: “Experts from Buet’s Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation (BRTA) will inspect the burnt building’s structural strength on Sunday or Monday and submit a report. Based on the report, it will be decided if the shop owner’s can reopen their shops and continue business for the time being.”
Mayor Annisul said: “Until now, various sort of news with many assumptions and allegations have been published centring the Gulshan 1 DNCC Market fire and today [yesterday] several media outlets have reported that shop owners have entered the burnt market forcefully and started their regular activities.
“However, the real scenario was nothing like that.”
“Shop owners had entered the market today [yesterday] to clean certain areas for the inspection of the Buet experts,” he added.
Annisul claimed that a group of unscrupulous people were trying to take advantage of the situation surrounding the Gulshan 1 DNCC Market fire for their own benefits
The mayor further told this Dhaka Tribune reporter that he had visited the market yesterday evening and asked the traders to carry out the cleaning work carefully.
When contacted, Gulshan 1 DNCC Market Association President acknowledged the matter and said: “Businesses will restart after the Buet experts give their inspection report.”
A massive fire broke out in Gulshan 1 DNCC market around 2:30am on Tuesday. The fire caused a building of the kitchen market to collapse and left several other shops completely damaged in another building of the market.
Shop owners have blamed the city corporation’s higher authority and Metro Group for the deadly fire so that the city corporation can implement its one-sided plan.
City Mayor Annisul Huq, however, denied the allegations made by the shop owners.
Besides, no casualties have been reported so far and the reason behind the fire is still unknown.
