Bangladesh receives full Louis Kahn Parliament designs

The entire blueprint of the National Parliament arrived in a FedEx flight in 41 crates on Thursday afternoon.

The government had asked University of Pennsylvania, who were entrusted with the designs after the death of Louis Kahn, to send the blueprint to make necessary amendments to the current Parliament design which has undergone several renovations to accommodate the needs of many influential people over the years.

The final blueprint will be used to evict and demolish the structures which stand contrary to the original design. They would possibly include the graves on the Jatiya Sangsad grounds, including BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and seven other politicians.

A group of experts from Institute of Architects Bangladesh went to the US to retrieve the original designs.

The original designs included hospitals, open parks and other public spaces. The National Secretariat was also penned in the designs to be located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Earlier this year, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain had said $3,550 was sent to the University of Pennsylvania to pay for the retrieval and preparation of the blueprint from their archives.
