Fertiliser factories resumes production after five months

Both the fertiliser factories in Narsingdi Urea Fertiliser Factory, Ghorashal and Polash Urea Fertiliser Factory resumed production after five months of closure, as Ghorashal resumed production Monday.

Earlier on April 1, the government stopped gas supply to four of the country’s fertiliser factories to divert gas supply to power plants to minimise the pressure on electricity during the summer heat and because of boro cultivation. Titas Gas authorities later resumed supplying gas to Ghorashal on August 24.

Due to the factory already being equipped with automated machinery it took around a week to resume production after the gas supply was reestablished, officials said.

Factory officials said Ghorashal had a daily production of 1,200 tonnes, while Polash had 280. To meet the farmer’s demands during the closure, the government decided to import 1.5m tonnes of fertiliser.
