US supports rice research in Bangladesh, says Mozena

US Ambassador to Dhaka Dan W Mozena said America supported the development of so many new high yielding, dynamic and tolerant varieties of rice in Bangladesh.

Addressing a programme, titled “Rice Research Ideas Exchange for Partnership for Enhanced Engagement in Scientific Research and Development,” at Dhaka University’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department Tuesday, Mozana made the comment.

He said America was working as a partner of the Ministry of Agriculture under the leadership of Agriculture Minister Matia Choudhury to introduce those new varieties and improved agricultural technologies to millions across the southern regions of Bangladesh.

He also said the existing researches of the Bangladesh Agriculture University, Agriculture Research Institute and the DU are of international standard, adding that those researches were innovative and practical, which could be very useful for the Bangladeshi farmers.

Biological Sciences Faculty Dean Prof Imdadul Haque, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department Chairman Prof M Sayedul Islam and Prof Zeba-I-Seraj of the same department were present on the occasion.
