Railways Minister: Khulna-Mongla railway project to be completed by Oct 31

Railways Minister Nurul Islam has said more than 98% of the Khulna-Mongla railway project is done, and the remaining work will wrap up by October 31.

"The construction of a 5.13-kilometre-long railway bridge over the Rupsa River has reached its final stages. About 98.05% of the work on the Phultala-Mongla railway line is complete, and the remaining tasks are expected to conclude by October 31,” The railways minister said.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Khulna-Mongla railway line on November 9,” he said while inspecting the project area from Khulna's Phultala railway station on Saturday afternoon.

"Railways are a national treasure of Bangladesh, providing one of the safest and easiest means of transportation. The government is actively working to expand and modernize the railway network, aiming to cover the entire country. This railway line's opening will significantly contribute to the economic development of the southwest region," the minister added.

The Khulna-Mongla project is underway with the involvement of Indian companies: Larsen and Toubro and Ircon International Ltd are managing different aspects. Nine platforms have been established from Phultala to Mongla.

Additionally, they have completed the construction of 107 small bridges and nine underpasses. A total of Tk4,260,88,59 has been invested in this 91-kilometre double-line railway project from Phultala to Mongla.
