ADB to fund for expansion of four highways

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has decided to fund the expansion of Bangladesh's four highways into four lanes. There will be a separate lane for slow-moving vehicles as well.

The highways are: Dhaka-Sylhet, Rangpur-Banglabandha, Rangpur-Burimari and Barishal-Faridpur.

The information was disclosed by the Country Director of ADB Manmohan Parkash, after a meeting with the Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at the Secretariat, according to a press release issued by the ministry on Wednesday.

The decision was taken after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested ADB to fund the expansion of the highways, Parkash said.

He added that the work for the expansion of Barisal-Faridpur highway and Rangpur-Burimari has already begun.
