The government has decided to undertake 80 projects under the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100, costing nearly Tk2.98 trillion and to be implemented by 2030.
Water Resources Minister Anwar Hossain Manju made the announcement in reply to a question at parliament on Monday, reported BSS.
“In the first phase, the government will implement the 80 projects by identifying six ‘hot spot’,” the minister said while replying to treasury bench member M Faridul Haque Khan, lawmaker from Jamalpur 2 constituency.
The minister also informed the House that out of the 80 projects, 65 had been marked as infrastructure-related, and the rest would be focused on building organizational capacity.

The minister further said Bangladesh Water Development Board (WDB) had brought 6.34 million hectares out of 11 million hectares of flood-prone areas under flood control and drainage system in the country.
“Under the project, the WDB constructed 15,616km embankment along with 4,750km embankment in the coastal areas,” he added.
The government adopted Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 with the aim to ensure water and food security, economic progress and sustainable climate, the minister told parliament.
The National Economic Council (NEC), with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in chair, approved the mega plan on September 4.
