The week-long exhibition of products produced by grass-root level women entrepreneurs has started in Barisal on Saturday.
Trinamul Nari Uddyakta Society (TNUS) organised the exhibition in assistance with Self Employed Workers Association (SEWA) with the theme “Unity and Struggle: Save Industry, Save Culture”.
The exhibition with 12 stalls would be opened for visitors and buyers from 10am to 10pm till July 2, 2015, said the organisers.
The exhibition was arranged to develop the overall condition of the women entrepreneurs and to promote the skills of widowed, divorced and tortured women from grassroots level and establish them in all aspects of the society through such income increasing programs and providing employment for them, said the organisers.
Advocate Sheikh Md Tipu Sultan, lawmaker of Workers Party of Bangladesh, inaugurated the exhibition at Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city.
The lawmaker called to remove the obstruction of society and to arrange such kind of fairs to create market for the women.
He hoped that district level wholesale and retail markets would also be created through this kind of fair and it also will expand opportunity to work for the home-based women entrepreneurs.
Maksuda Khanam, central assistant secretary of TNUS, presided over the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition and among others, Saidur Rahman Rintu, AL-backed Sadar upazila chairman and president of Barisal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, attended the programme as chief guest.
