A suspected criminal has been killed in a gunfight with police at Satbaria under the sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
The deceased is Ujjal, 30.
Ujjal and his associates were holding a secret meeting in a brick field at Satbaria around 12:45am on Wednesday.
On information, a team of police launched a drive in the area.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate with gunfire, which triggered a gunfight, leaving Ujjal injured with bullets.
Brahmanbaria OC Akul Chondro Biswas said: “He was taken to the sadar hospital, where duty doctor Azhar Rahman declared him dead. His body has been kept in the hospital's morgue.”
Meanwhile, three police officials were also injured in the gunfight.
He said police recovered a revolver and three rounds of ammunition from the spot.
The OC said Ujjal was an accused in 11 cases, including murder.
