The High Court yesterday fixed April 22 for holding final hearing on a petition challenging the legality of a corruption case filed against Zubaida Rahman, wife of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The bench of Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan set the date after Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan prayed to the court for disposal of the petition filed seven years ago.
The Anti-Corruption Commission lodged the case with Kafrul police on September 26, 2007 accusing Tarique, Zubaida and her mother Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu of giving false information and concealing wealth worth Tk4.23 crore and earning properties worth Tk4.82 crore illegally.
The charge sheet was submitted on March 31, 2008 accusing Zubaida Rahman of aiding Tarique to illegally amassing wealth and allowing him to open two fixed deposit accounts, each valued Tk35 crore.
Upon a plea filed by Zubaida on April 8 the same year, the High Court stalled proceedings in the case for two months.
The High Court on April 2 this year allowed the commission to become a party in the rule. Now, the Anti-Corruption Commission lawyers can place their arguments during hearing on the petition.
