1 held for threatening bomb attack on Boishakhi Mela in Jamalpur

A man has been arrested on Monday evening on charge of making threat of bomb attack on the local Boishakhi Mela, the Bengali new year fair.

A team from local DB police made the arrest to Majedur Rahman Sohag from Balijuri area in Madarganj upazila.

Jamalpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Nazrul Islam told a press briefing around 9pm that Madarganj police station OC Abdul Awal received a text message in which a man identified himself IRS militant and asked him to stop the Boishakhi Mela is being held in the upazila town and Duramuth.

The SMS also reads that a petrol bomb attack would be conducted on the fair in case of denial of his wish.  

Later, DB officials arrested Majedur after tracking the mobile phone number.

The SP went on that Majedur used to work at a local NGO hailing from Miasabpara of the upazila.
