Three suspected robbers were beaten to death by a mob at Rajapur village in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Additional Superintend of Police Ajbahar Ali Sheikh said: “A gang of robbers numbering 10-12 entered Rajapur village to commit robbery. Sensing the presence of the robbers, villagers chased them.
Hearing the news, the villagers surrounded the village.
The robbers blasted five crude bombs aiming at the villagers.
The villagers caught three of them – Faruk Hossain, 36, son of Abdur Razzak of Charshamnagar village Rafiq Hossain, 40, son Md Nazer and Sariful Islam, 40, son of Ayub Ali of Zuginda village in Gangni upazila – and beat them indiscriminately.
On information, police rescued the injured robbers and took them to the Meherpur Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead.
A pistol and one bullet were seized from the spot, police said.
A case was filed in this connection.
