A housewife has been burnt to death allegedly by her husband over family dispute in the district's Madhobpur upazila.
Jinnat Akhter, 19, who received severe burns, succumbed to her injuries at the Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday afternoon, hours after she was set ablaze by her husband Ripon Miah.
OC Mollah Monir Miah of Madhobpur police station told the Dhaka Tribune: “Ripon often engaged in altercations with his wife Jinnat over family matters. The duo again locked into an altercation on Monday night.”
“At one stage, Ripon doused Jinnat in kerosene and set her ablaze. Hearing Jinnat's scrams, locals took her to the Upazila Health Complex, where she died on Tuesday afternoon.”
Ripon and his family members went into hiding immediately after the incident, said the police.
“We are trying to capture Ripon,” said the OC.
