The authorities of Dhaka University have temporarily expelled four activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, students' wing of the Awami League, on charge of assaulting two journalists on Monday.
They are Taslim Hasan Tuhin, student of sociology department, Ali Abbas of criminology department, Kamrul Hasan Sumon of peace and conflict studies department and Shahariar Nazim Shawon of disaster management and vulnerability studies department.
Besides, the authorities served show cause notices to four other BCL activists nmaed Bahauddin Radik (philosophy), Abdul Hakim Bakul (Urdu), Shahariar Sonet (philosophy) and Atikur Rahman (banking and insurance), said a press release.
According to sources, all of the Chhatra League men are first year students and followers of Hazi Mohammad Moshasin Hall unit President Maksud Rana Mithu.
Acting proctor Prof M Amzad Ali said: “A probe committee will also be formed soon and further action will be taken against the accused as per the report.”
On Monday, the Chhatra League activists assaulted President of DU Journalists' Association Masum Billaha and harassed a female journalist of UNB while they were celebrating Bangladesh's historical victory against England in the World Cup.
Teh DU proctorial team caught two accused from the spot and handed them over to police.
