The International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued a warrant yesterday for the arrest of 1971 war crime suspects Gazi Abdul Mannan, M Hafiz Uddin, and Azharul Islam of Kishoreganj.
The tribunal passed the order, after a short hearing on a petition moved by the prosecution, as proposed by the investigation agency seeking to issue the warrant against the three war crime suspects for an “effective and proper investigation.”
The International Crimes Tribunals Rules of Procedure empowers the investigation officer of the case to obtain an arrest warrant for war crime suspects from the tribunal through the prosecution at any stage of the investigation.
Emerging from the tribunal, prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon said to reporters that, as members of the Razakar, an infamous auxiliary outfit of the Pakistan occupation army, the three men had allegedly perpetrated crimes against humanity such as persecution, killing, looting, and arson attacks on shops and houses in Kishoreganj during the 1971 Liberation War.
