Bike lifters’ gang arrested in Chittagong

Their ages and educations would have lead them to creative works, but it was their greed which guided them through criminal activities.

They are four in number. But their leader who is a law student does not take part in stealing operatin directly since he knows provision of laws and its punishment.

Ariful Islam Nirob, 23, son of late Abdul Haque, of Senbag in Noakhali, a fourth year student of Premier University, leads the gang remaining behind the scene.

Nirob and his three associates – Shamim Mannan, Habib and unidentified another one – residents of city’s Rasulbag residential area told police personnel while giving a confessional statement yesterday.

A team from Bakalia police station arrested Nirob and Shamim when they were stealing a motorcycle from local Jhinuk Bhaban’s car parking in the city on Tuesday night.

During the interrogation, they told law enforcers that they had stolen only two bikes in the last two months. But police said they number would be more.

Officer-in-Charge of Bakalia police station Mohammad Mohsin said financial condition of Nirob’s family was good. He also earned money from tuition. But it was not enough for him, he wanted to pocket huge amount of money within short period.

As the youth wanted to live life in more stylish way, he choose the crime’s world, the OC said.

“Nirob met with Shamim, a resident of Feni, when he went to his elder brother’s residence and promised Shamim to manage a good job and took him to the city. Later, Nirob made his gang with Shamim, Habib and another one to steal bikes,” he said.

A case was lodged with Bakalia police station in this connection.
