A Jubo Dal leader sustained bullet injuries during a “gunfight” with the detective police in Paler Hat area under the Sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The injured, Nazrul Islam Jasim, 28, president of South Hamchhadi union unit Jubo Dal, has been admitted to the district Sadar Hospital, said upazila unit Jubo Dal General Secretary Alamgir Hossain.
Assistant Police Super Md Nasim Mia said: “The police arrested Jasim, who is wanted in three criminal cases, around 12am.On the way to police station, Jasim's aides attacked the law enforcers and tried to snatch the arrestee.”
“The police opened fire on the criminals in self-defence, leaving Jasim injured. The other criminals managed to flee the scene immediately.”
Denying the allegation, injured Jasim told the Dhaka Tribune: “The police arrested me from my house around 12am. Later, they took me to Paler Hat area and shot me in the leg.”
