A Chhatra Shibir activist has been killed in a gunfight with police at Mirpur in the capital.
Police also arrested 11 other Bangladesh Chhatra Shibir activists along with petrol bombs, several litres of petrol and empty bottles from the gunfight spot, reports BSS.
The deceased is Md Emadullah, 20, son of Jamal Uddin, a resident of Mirpur section 2 under Mirpur Model police station.
Mirpur Model police station SI Md Bazlur Rahman said: “A patrol team of Mirpur police arrested Emadullah along with two petrol bombs after setting up a check post at Mirpur-10 intersection around 7.30pm on Saturday night.”
Base on the information from the arrestee, a team of Mirpur police conducted a drive at Mirpur embankment area under Rupnagar police station around 11:15pm on the night, he added.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fires to the police and the law enforcers returned back, Bazlur said.
Emadullah got bullet injuries during the gunfight and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) immediately where the on duty doctor declared him dead.
“Police arrested 11 activists of Chhatra Shibir and seized two petrol bombs, 3.5 litres of petrol and 10 empty bottles from their possession while some others managed to flee from the scene,” the official said.
Two cases were lodged with Mirpur Model police station and Rupnagar police station under explosive acts and attacks on police respectively.
